The morning was dedicated to the Federal Ministry's activities during the German EU Council Presidency and to information about Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. The Fellows learned about what the EU Council Presidency entails and about the significance of the "voice of the Member States".
The second part focused on the evolution of the European Research Area, a research and innovation equivalent to the European "common market" for goods and services, and its priorities.
This was followed by a presentation on the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Since this is the European funding programme that most of the fellows are concerned with in their daily work, information on, e.g., funding instruments, minimum participation requirements and how the German National Contact Point (NCP) system works came very useful.
The Ministry also gave an outlook on the forthcoming Framework Programme Horizon Europe and an overview of the similarities and differences between the current and future Framework Programme.
The afternoon was dedicated to 6 roundtables with representatives from the German NCPs for the European Research Council, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, Health, Demographic Change and Wellbeing, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Smart, Green and Integrated Transport, and Partnerships. The Fellows were thus able to gain a deeper insight into different Horizon 2020 programme areas and had the opportunity to ask questions and share knowledge and experience with other Fellows and the NCP representatives.
